WE NEED MILLENNIALS TO HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE
The Future is Ours campaign calls for the younger generation to be represented in global decision-making processes.
A central tenet is the absolute requirement of proportional representation of generations in all of these life-changing decisions, and climate change is most obvious place to start as the policy actions today will have a momentous impact on the future of young people globally. Those currently in the driving seat won’t be around in 30 years and the consequences of their decisions will be felt by millennials of today.
The Future is Ours calls for a symbolic country representing global youth to be created that could to take part in all decision making across a range of global issues. This generation has a global outlook. Like the characters in the Star Wars series, they don’t care so much about country of birth or colour of skin but in shared values and vision. The future is theirs and it is incumbent upon us all to ensure their voices are heard.
Those with the biggest stake in our future need to be represented at the table of negotiations, say Nobel Laureates, activists and CEOs backing new campaign. The Future Is Ours is calling for a symbolic country representing global youth to take part in climate change talks.
The Future is ours
We call for a symbolic country representing global youth to be created that could to take part in decision making across a range of global issues.
The younger generation has a global outlook. Like the characters in Star Wars, they don’t care so much about country of birth or colour of skin but in shared values and vision.
The future belongs to young people and it is our responsibility to ensure their voices are heard loud and clear.
A Real Seat at the table
Young people need to be at the table where the crucial decisions on carbon caps are being made.
The younger generation cannot be sidelined in decisions that will have such a momentous impact on the world they will inhabit.
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s CEOs and heads of state. They will drive the future and need to have a driving hand in the decision-making process.
We need millennials to have a seat at the table when we set carbon emission caps. NASA released data earlier this year showing that the global surface temperatures across land and ocean in February were 1.35 degree Celsius warmer than the average temperature for that same month from 1951 to 1980. It’s time we think hard, and think creatively, about the way forward.
